UNS C86500 (standardized under ASTM B505 / ASTM B505M for continuous casting, ASTM B584 for sand castings, and ASTM B271 for centrifugal castings, historically cataloged as SAE 43 or Alloy 865) is a high-strength cast copper-zinc alloy known industrially as No.1 Manganese Bronze (or High-Strength Yellow Brass).Despite its traditional commercial name of "Bronze", C86500 is metallurgically a duplex (α + β) cast brass formulated with 55.0% to 60.0% copper and balanced with zinc. It is strengthened through solid-solution and grain-refining additions of Iron (0.40% - 2.00%), Aluminum (0.50% - 1.50%), and Manganese (0.10% - 1.50%). This alloy provides high tensile strength, load-bearing capacity, and resistance to saltwater corrosion without requiring heat treatment.
