CZ114 (governed by British Standards BS 2874 for rods/sections, BS 2872 for forging stock, and traditionally designated under BS 250) is a multi-phase high-strength copper alloy classified industrially as a Manganese Bronze or High Tensile Brass. Formulated with 56.0% to 60.0% Copper and a zinc balance, it is strengthened with additions of Manganese (0.50% - 2.00%), Iron (0.30% - 1.25%), and Tin (0.20% - 1.00%). Crucially, CZ114 strictly restricts Aluminum to a maximum of 0.20% (and is commonly produced completely aluminum-free). This restriction avoids the formation of refractory alumina surface films, giving CZ114 brazing and soldering characteristics alongside high tensile strength, load-bearing rigidity, and resistance to marine corrosion.
