UNS C37000 (standardized under ASTM B124 / ASTM B283 for forgings, ASTM B135 for seamless tube, and ASTM B981 for low-leaded rod and shapes) is an engineered (α + β) duplex brass known historically as Free-Cutting Muntz Metal or Leaded 60/40 Brass. Formulated with 59.0% to 62.0% Copper, a moderate 0.8% to 1.5% Lead (Pb) addition, and a zinc balance, C37000 bridges the gap between high-speed free-cutting brass (C36000) and hot-forging brass (C37700). By keeping lead lower than traditional screw-machine alloys while maintaining a balanced duplex matrix, C37000 delivers a 70% machinability rating alongside reliable hot workability and moderate cold-forming ductility.
