IS 6912 FLB (standardized under Bureau of Indian Standards specification IS 6912: Copper and Copper Alloy Forging Stock and Forgings) designates Forging Leaded Brass. Formulated as an (α + β) duplex brass matrix with approximately 57.0% to 60.0% copper and a controlled 1.5% to 2.5% lead (Pb) addition, FLB is engineered for components that require hot drop forging or closed-die hot stamping followed by intensive, high-speed secondary CNC machining. The balanced lead distribution ensures short, discontinuous chip formation during drilling, facing, and thread cutting without inducing hot shortness or tearing inside heated forging dies.
