CW616N

CW616N (chemical designation CuZn39Pb2Sn) is an engineered (α + β) duplex brass defined under European standards EN 12164 (rods for free machining), EN 12165 (forging stock and billets), and EN 12167 (profiles and rectangular bars). It occupies an intermediate position between standard forging brass (CW617N) and naval brasses, combining hot formability, free-machining performance, and enhanced surface resistance. Formulated with 57.0% to 59.0% copper, a controlled 1.5% to 2.5% lead (Pb) content, and a deliberate addition of 0.2% to 0.5% tin (Sn), CW616N uses tin to increase structural hardness, wear resistance, and resistance to atmospheric and mild fluid corrosion without reducing hot-die plasticity.
