CuZn38Pb2 (standardized under European specifications as EN CW608N across EN 12164, EN 12165, EN 12167, and EN 12168) is an engineered (α + β) duplex leaded brass designed to bridge the gap between high-speed chip machinability and cold plastic formability. Formulated with 59.5% to 61.5% copper, a controlled 1.6% to 2.5% lead (Pb) content, and a zinc balance, CuZn38Pb2 provides a higher proportion of the ductile alpha (α) phase than standard 58% turning brasses like CuZn39Pb3 (CW614N). This metallurgical formulation makes CuZn38Pb2 a standard choice for parts that require precision automatic lathe turning combined with moderate secondary cold operations such as knurling, crimping, thread rolling, rivetting, or light bending.
