CW617N

CW617N (chemical designation CuZn40Pb2) is the primary European benchmark alloy for hot stamping, closed-die drop forging, and press forming, defined under EN 12165 (forging stock and billets) and EN 12420 (forgings). Built on an (α + β) duplex brass structure, it is formulated with 57.0% to 59.0% copper and a tightly controlled 1.6% to 2.5% lead (Pb) content. This metallurgical composition maximizes high-temperature plastic deformation in forging dies without hot-cracking, while the evenly distributed lead inclusions provide clean chip clearance during subsequent high-speed CNC finish-machining.
