CuZn40Pb2 is the standardized metallurgical designation (designated as CW617N under European standards EN 12165, EN 12164, and EN 12420) for the world's most widely used hot forging and stamping brass. Metallurgically structured as an (α + β) duplex brass, it contains approximately 57.0% to 59.0% copper, 1.6% to 2.5% lead, and a zinc balance. This composition is engineered to optimize two traditionally opposing properties: exceptional plasticity at elevated temperatures for hot closed-die forging, combined with reliable chip-breaking capability during secondary CNC turning, drilling, and threading.
