JIS C3601 (standardized under Japanese Industrial Standard JIS H 3250) is a specialized leaded brass alloy formulated to provide a distinct balance between machinability and cold workability. While standard free-cutting grades (such as C3604 or C36000) prioritize high lead content for maximum chip fragmentation, C3601 maintains a lower, tightly controlled lead content (0.5% to 1.5%) and higher copper content (59.0% to 63.0%). This metallurgy gives C3601 higher ductility, tensile strength, and impact resistance, making it ideal for precision turned parts that must undergo secondary deformation such as riveting, crimping, knurling, bending, or thread rolling without cracking.
